One thing I’ve learned as I’ve got older is that glowing skin isn’t about using the most expensive products or chasing every new trend.
For me, it’s all about hydration.

When my skin is hydrated, it looks healthier, brighter, plumper and far more youthful than when I focus on harsh actives or quick fixes. Over the last few months, I’ve become a little obsessed with supporting my skin barrier and layering hydration into my routine, and honestly, it’s made the biggest difference to my skin.
This is exactly what I do most evenings.
✨ Step 1: Double Cleanse
I always start with an oil cleanser to remove makeup, SPF and the day, followed by a water-based cleanser to properly cleanse my skin without stripping it.
✨ Step 2: Skin Flooding (My Glow Layer)
This has been my biggest skincare discovery of the year.
I start with the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Probiotics Barrier Essence, which instantly makes my skin feel bouncy and hydrated.
Next comes the Sculpted by Aimee Liquid Glow Brightening Essence. It contains niacinamide and gives my skin that healthy, lit-from-within glow.
I then layer The Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Formula, which helps keep my skin calm, comfortable and resilient.
Finally, I apply The Ordinary Saccharomyces Ferment 30% Milky Toner. It gently smooths and brightens while adding yet another layer of hydration.
By this point my skin has absolutely soaked everything up. This stage is where most of the glow begins.
✨ Step 3: Treat & Repair
Once those layers have settled, I move onto my treatment products.
The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + HA Serum is my all-round support serum, helping with hydration, firmness and overall skin quality.
For my eyes, I use Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Lift + Sculpt, followed by the iconic Advanced Night Repair Serum across my face.
These are the products I rely on for overnight recovery and repair.
✨ Step 4: Seal Everything In
Once all of those layers have absorbed, I lock everything in with the Medicube PDRN Pink Collagen Capsule Cream.
This is the step that leaves my skin feeling nourished, plump and incredibly soft when I wake up the next morning.
✨ Step 5: Targeted Plumping
My newest addition is Volufiline by The Ordinary
I’m applying it to specific areas where I’d like a little more fullness and softness. It’s still early days, so I’m not ready to give a full review just yet, but I’m excited to see the results over the next few months.
✨ Final Thoughts
At 40, my goal isn’t to look younger.
It’s to have healthy, hydrated skin that glows.
I’ve found that when I focus on hydration, supporting my skin barrier and being consistent, my skin looks far better than it ever did when I was constantly chasing the next miracle product.
And yes… all of this usually happens after my red light therapy too.
If you’ve made it this far, I’d love to know: what’s the one skincare product you couldn’t live without?
